    A bystander recognizes sudden cardiac arrest. Starts chest compressions and calls emergency services.

    Activation

    Intuitive system activation in the user's app or via the medical dispatcher. Alarm triggered at the nearest rescue tower. Bystanders mobilised to bring the AED to the scene.

    Mobilization

Is training required to use Tower of Life?

No. The system is simple and intuitive, and the AED guides the user step by step. To stay confident in giving help, take a hands-on first-aid refresher every two years.

How much does the tower cost and what's the upkeep?

Pricing depends on configuration (outdoor / wall version, 19" screen, GSM intercom, optional photovoltaics). We prepare a full quote for a specific location within 5 working days. Annual maintenance (telemetry, electrode replacement, preventive service) is a fraction of the cost of a single post-OHCA hospitalization.

What about accessibility for people with disabilities?

Tower of Life meets WCAG 2.1 for physical infrastructure, the capsule is positioned to be reachable by people in wheelchairs and older children, contrasting markings, ISO 7010 pictograms, audio instructions in Polish and English.

How is the tower protected from vandalism and weather?

Stainless housing rated IP65 (dust- and watertight) and IK10 (resistance to mechanical impact). The AED capsule is heated, so it operates from −30°C to +60°C. Every opening or removal of the AED sends a notification to the system administrator. Towers can also be equipped with video surveillance.

Does installation require a building permit?

In most cases — no. The tower is classified as small-architecture infrastructure under Polish Construction Law (Art. 29). It can be set on a prefabricated or point foundation. We deliver technical design, safety documentation, and a service manual. For special-purpose sites (heritage zones, road verges) we coordinate with the relevant authorities.

How does it integrate with existing AED infrastructure?

We add an alarm module and connect the AED to the rescue network. The user decides whether the network should be internal to the organisation or publicly accessible.

Where does the data for the responder network come from?

The Tower of Life app builds a community of BLS+AED-trained people (professional responders, medical students, instructors). Once the system is activated, people in the vicinity receive information about the incident and the location of the nearest tower. Participation is voluntary, and location data is processed under GDPR — only during an active incident.

Can the project be financed from public funds?

Yes. Tower of Life qualifies for participatory budgets, workplace safety / CSR / ESG programmes, public health prevention funds, EEA Norway Grants, and regional health programmes. As a dual-use solution (civilian + defence) it also fits into civil protection and civil defence funding — including Poland's Civil Protection Fund, NCBR security and defence programmes, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) and Horizon Europe (Cluster 3: Civil Security for Society). We help prepare the application — we have experience from the WUST pilot and from working with local governments.

What happens to the data after an incident?

Each system activation generates a report (time, location, AED status, dispatcher call duration). The report goes to the location operator and — with consent — to scientific research (Wrocław University of Science and Technology, ERC). We don't process the victim's personal data — that stays with EMS and hospitals.

How long does the first tower deployment take?

From contract signing to launch: 8–12 weeks for a single location (site analysis, technical design, manufacturing, installation, dispatch integration, initial staff training). A network of 5–10 towers: 16–20 weeks with parallel rollout.
